Capitals’ Evgeny Kuznetsov Day-To-Day With Upper-Body Injury, Nick Jensen Back On Second Pairing: Tuesday’s Practice Notebook

Center Evgeny Kuznetsov was not on the ice for the Washington Capitals‘ practice on Tuesday after sustaining an upper-body injury during the second period of the team’s 5-3 loss to the New York Islanders on Monday. He was labeled as “questionable” to return and is day-to-day according to the team.

The Capitals practice once more on Wednesday before leaving for their three-game road trip, which starts against the Colorado Avalanche at Pepsi Center on Thursday night (9 PM ET, NBCSN nationally or NBC Sports Washington locally). Head coach Todd Reirden did not know if he will travel with the team.

With Kuznetsov out, center Lars Eller took his place on the second-line while center Travis Boyd took Eller’s spot on the third, according to NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti.

After defenseman Martin Fehervary was reassigned to the AHL’s Hershey Bears on Tuesday morning, Nick Jensen was placed back on the second defensive pairing, Gulitti said.

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar told Altitude Sports Radio that center Nazem Kadri will be out long-term and is labeled as week-to-week. He suffered the injury, which is lower-body, in the team’s 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night. “Kadri’s going to miss some time here,” Bednar said.

NBC has added Thursday’s Capitals-Avalanche game to their television schedule as captain Alex Ovechkin remains two goals away from 700 in his NHL career.

Out of town, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid will miss 2-3 weeks with a quad injury while Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jason Zucker, who was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Wild on Monday, will make his debut with his new team against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight and start out with captain Sidney Crosby. The Columbus Blue Jackets also announced that defenseman Seth Jones underwent ankle surgery and will miss 8-10 weeks.

    I checked all the newspapers and internet sites. Todd Reirden is STILL the head coach of the Washington Capitals NHL team. Rats.

    Yet another Fecal Fiesta!

    I think the Caps can adjust and get better overall play if they: emphasize more offensive zone time, emphasize better puck management while in said zone, not pinch the D as much, dump and chase once in a while too. They play to fancy. Be more north south.

    Unless they are willing to move a prospect and their 1st rounder for a legit D man, then it’s no use doing much at the deadline except maybe add a depth player here and there…
