Mantha To Miss Washington’s Game In Montreal On Thursday; Team To Dress 17 Skaters

The Washington Capitals announced prior to Thursday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market) that left-wing Anthony Mantha will miss the contest with a lower-body injury.

The team will dress just 17 skaters to allow for a recall from AHL Hershey for Saturday’s game against the Florida Panthers using the salary cap emergency rule.

Mantha has recorded 11 goals and 27 points in 67 games this season.

Both Washington and Montreal will miss the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Washington has five games left starting on Thursday.

Who gets the lucky ticket in Hershey? It’s gotta be McMichael or Snively.

Frank and Snively as if both Mantha and Oshie get put on LTIR then there is enough cap space to bring up 2 wings. We have centers on the team and sad but PL is not going to play CMM at center. Wish he would give Smith a shot and move Kuzy to wing.

Exactly what injury does Mantha have?

You know, you can’t just tell the NHL your player is injured, he really does have to be so. Falsifying injury records would probably result in fines and/or loss of draft picks.

I refer you to the case of the Arizona Coyotes, who were stripped of draft picks, due to working out prospects illegally.

Unless Oshie and Mantha go on LTIR there is no cap space to bring up anyone. If they gte put there then lets bring up Frank and Snivley and let they both play wing and sit either Smith or Kuzy. No sense in bringing up a kid for Hershey and not playing his now as there is nothing to play for except the end of the season.

    • KimRB says:

The Caps can’t put anyone on LTIR. It has to be for a minimum of ten games. By my calculations, we only have four left in the season. Please research before posting.
