After recalling defenseman Christian Djoos from his two-game conditioning stint with the AHL’s Hershey Bears on Friday, the Washington Capitals sent defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler back to Hershey to make room for Djoos on the NHL roster.
Djoos, 24, missed 23 consecutive games after undergoing thigh surgery on December 14 but it looks like he will return to the lineup against the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
In 25 games with the Capitals this season, Siegenthaler, 21, posted four assists and a +7 rating. After an impressive showing in training camp, he got off to a rocky start in the AHL, posting just two points (both assists) and a -2 rating in 14 games.
Seigenthaler played in five consecutive games and 20 of the last 24 games for the Capitals before sitting as a healthy scratch in the team’s 4-3 overtime win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night.

The Washington Capitals have re-assigned defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.
Siegenthaler, 21, made his NHL debut on Nov. 9 against the Columbus Blue Jackets and has appeared in 25 games for the Capitals this season, registering four points (4a) and 10 penalty minutes. Prior to his recall to Washington, Siegenthaler has played in 14 games with Hershey this season and has registered two assists. The 6’3″, 230-pound defenseman played in his first season with the Hershey Bears last year. In 102 career games with the Bears, Siegenthaler has recorded 15 points (6g, 9a) and 85 penalty minutes.
Siegenthaler recorded his first career AHL goal on Oct. 15, 2017 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The Zurich, Switzerland, native previously played for the ZSC Lions in the National League in Switzerland. In 115 career games in the National League, Siegenthaler recorded 18 points (4g, 14a) and 85 penalty minutes.
The Capitals selected Siegenthaler in the second round, 57th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Number twenty-two has been a colossal bust for the Caps, and he keeps hanging around for who-knows-why! Mr. Siegenthaler is a budding, real NHL defenseman — growing pains, a few, but talented and physical. His stats show he is GOOD (RMNB has a great article TODAY 08Feb19 showing these stats.) Now he gets to be humiliated for no good reason.The top-four Defensemen on the Hershey Bears, and Siegenthaler too, are ALL more talented and better players than Number Twenty Two. Get a grip, Management!
the top 4 are signed for the next couple of years…. So JG and CJ and TL will be the 5/6… trade others
Best move business wise. Seigs deserves to stay up but Bowey wouldve been lost on Waivers, so thats a no go. Getting Djoos back tomorrow will be a boost, he really came into his own during last years run another puck moving defenseman who can transport the puck from the Dzone into Ozone, jump into the offense.
