Capitals Move-On To Columbus For Final Game Before All-Star Break: Capitals Monday Notebook

The Washington Capitals made their way to Columbus, Ohio, following their 5-1 loss to the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Sunday night. They next face the Blue Jackets on Tuesday in the final game before the 2023 All-Star break.

PRACTICE

The team held practice at the Ohio Health Ice Haus at 1PM on Monday. There was no coverage by the media or the team.

The team will hold a gameday morning skate at 11:30 AM at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday. Puck drop with the Jackets is set for 7PM Tuesday night.

Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jackets not only concludes the Caps’ January slate, it’s their last game until they visit the Bruins in Boston on Feb. 11.

The Capitals have 11 games remaining before the NHL trade deadline on March 3.

STAT OF THE DAY – GOALTENDING

Today’s stat of the day looks at the Capitals team save percentage at even strength over the course of the season. [Click to enlarge]

After getting off to a tremendous start to the season, and arguably saving the Capitals season while the rest of the team struggled, the Capitals goaltending cooled in November before rising again in December. However, the team goaltending percentage has once again cooled and dipped from .924% on December 31 to .918% over the last 13 games. They are currently 15th in the league.

DOWN ON THE FARM

Bogdan Trineyev recorded the primary assist on Dynamo’s overtime game-winning goal on Sunday. Trineyev, 20, almost scored the game-winner in regulation if it wasn’t for a great defensive play by a Barys player. It’s good to see the team looks to him for 3-on-3 play in critical moments of the game.

Trineyev, 6’-2”, 205, also had a monster hit in the game.

Ryan Hofer scored his 27th goal of the season in Kamloops 3-2 loss to the Victoria Royals on Saturday night. He has 27g, 16a for 43 points in 42 games played so far this season.

Ethen Frank scored his 19th and 20th goals of the season on Saturday night. He leads all AHL rookies in goals and is tied for first in points.

Frank is currently on an AHL contract and can’t be brought up to Washington as a result. However, the Capitals should be considering inking him to an NHL contract before another team does.

This all star break is coming at a really good time for the Caps. They have to win Tuesday and then regroup

Trade deadline leaning more towards “sellers” at this point.

They should be with 13 UFA/RFA on the roster and very limited cap space they need to trade some of the UFA?RFA for whatever they can get rather than let them walk for nothing. As much as I would like to see Mantha traded I cant of a single team that would take him and give up something useful to the Caps. Eller is probably a better bet to trade or Orlov.

That’s a long break. All-Star break, then “bye week”? Crazy.
