Goal songs add a fun, personal touch when players score. Whether it’s their favorite tune, a song to get the crowd hyped up, or perhaps a song pun on their name, it adds to the excitement of the moment. So, we want to know, if you played hockey, what would be your goal song blaring through the arena?
The 2019-20 season saw the launch of goal songs for the Washington Capitals, with numerous songs being familiar among fans:
- Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver [T.J. Oshie]
- Shake, Rattle, and Roll by Big Joe Turner [Alex Ovechkin]
- Eye of the Tiger by Survivor [Lars Eller]
- What is Love by Haddaway [Garnet Hathaway]
- Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry [John Carlson]
- Here I Go Again by Whitesnake [Nicklas Backstrom]
- Nick of Time by AC/DC [Nick Jensen]
- Sherry by The Four Seasons [Conor Sheary]
I also find it intriguing when new players join Washington, and we discover the song they chose—the newest being Sonny Milano and Walking on Sunshine:

I listen to music all day, every day, so this got me thinking about if I played hockey, what song would I choose to play to celebrate a goal? I also asked my fellow NoVa Caps contributors, and here is what we all picked:
Justin Trudel, My Friends Over You by New Found Glory
Harrison Brown, Flames by David Guetta and Sia
Bryan Hailey, Scum Of The Earth by Rob Zombie
Diane Doyle, I’m Still Standing by Elton John
Aaron Davis, Selkies: The Endless Obsession by Between the Buried and Me
Michael Fleetwood, Only in America by Brooks & Dunn
Jon Sorensen, Bertha by Grateful Dead
Della Young, Shadows of the Night by Pat Benatar
That is a really good selection, might I add.
We want to hear from you, Caps Nation! If you played hockey (or already play), what would be your goal song? Leave a comment below and let us know!
By Della Young
Embarrassing that your goal song video comes in a square aspect ratio, compared to letter box/rectangle ratio? 😂
Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland (though I’d want to use ELP’s 9 minute version).
ELP. We are showing our age, Fyre.
Afraid so
I’ll admit I showed my age with my choice. But then again, I’m still standing. I’m an ancient software programmer who stayed in the work force since after we lost the recompete of our contract, my former co-workers talked me into joining them. where they went.
Always a good sign when you start a day that way.
I like Della’s choice of Pat Benatar. I had started going to Caps games when they would play Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”.
They should play it more, especially before shootouts.
Kind of think sympathy for the devil by the stones would be cool. Crowd could sing along with the woo woo part. And any tine an opposing coach argued with the refs over a call, i would play you cant always get what you want
I’m on board with this as well☝️
Desolation Row, B. Dylan.
Human. Rag n bones
Good choice! Haven’t listened to that in awhile.
If I scored a goal it would be a rare event, so, “You don’t have to be a Star baby” Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr.
