Carl Hagelin Misses Capitals’ Practice On Thursday Due To Illness; Team Awaiting COVID-19 Test Results

Left-wing Carl Hagelin missed the Washington Capitals’ practice on Thursday with an illness and the team is still awaiting his COVID-19 test results.

[UPDATE: 12:00 PM. Hagelin’s COVID-19 test results were negative.]

Both of the 33-year-old’s linemates, center Nic Dowd and right-wing Garnet Hathaway, in addition to Capitals defenseman Trevor Van Riemsdyk are currently in COVID-19 protocol. Dowd missed a practice with an illness last week before the Capitals placed him on COVID-19 protocol.

The Capitals did not practice on Tuesday or Wednesday with three players on COVID-19 protocol.

Hagelin scored his first goal of the season in the Capitals’ 4-3 shootout win against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday and has five points in 26 games this season. He has averaged 1:39 on the penalty kill this season, most among the team’s forwards and third overall.

The Capitals host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday (7 PM ET, ESPN+) and visit the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday before they have another three days off in their schedule.
