NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said late Tuesday night that the league is reviewing an incident involving an official’s hot-mic during the second period of Tuesday’s game between the Predators and Red Wings in Nashville.

One of the game’s officials called a tripping penalty against Predator’s forward Viktor Arvidsson. During the game’s broadcast, a referee could be heard on a hot mic, stating “It wasn’t much, but I wanted to get a [expletive] penalty against Nashville, early in the…”

The call was Nashville’s first penalty of the game. Detroit was called for one penalty in the first period. Nashville led 1-0 at the time of the incident.
According to the Score, referees Tim Peel and Kelly Sutherland were working the game, though it’s unclear who was speaking at the time of the incident.
Hard to say where this goes over the next day or so, but the NHL is definitely looking into the “hot mic” incident discussing a penalty call from the DET/NASH game

In 2015, Peel said in an interview with Yahoo Sports that the NHL wants officials to sometimes make calls with “game management” in mind – in other words, to ensure a contest doesn’t get out of hand.
