The Washington Capitals released information on their third annual rookie showcase, which will take place in Estero, Florida. The Capitals’ prospects will compete against the prospects of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and Nashville Predators during the tournament, which will take place from September 8-11.
The roster, which is headlined by young Russian netminder Ilya Samsonov (22nd overall pick in 2015), can be found below. Other notable players who are participating in the tournament include forward Shane Gersich (signed by the Capitals in March out of UND), defenseman Alexandar Alexeyev (the Capitals’ first-round draft choice last June), and defenseman Lucas Johansen (Capitals’ 26th overall pick in 2016 and brother of Predators’ center Ryan Johansen).
The schedule can be found below:
All of the games can be listened to on Caps Radio 24/7, which is available on the NHL app.
The tournament was canceled last year due to Hurricane Irma and the Capitals went 0-3-0 in the 2016 showcase.
From Capitals’ Release:
The Washington Capitals will compete in a three-team rookie tournament to be held at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla., from Sept. 8-11. The 2018 Prospects Showcase will also feature top prospects from the Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning. Capitals prospects will face the Lightning prospects once and the Predators prospects twice during the round-robin tournament.
The Capitals’ tournament roster includes prospects who are under contract and recent Capitals draft picks who have not been signed yet. In addition, several undrafted and free agent amateur players will participate.

Notable Players: You’re missing one! It’s Eric Florchuk, the “Anchor Man”, which means he graduated last in his class — or in this case was the final player selected in the 2018 NHL Draft. Give us a feel-good story, Mr. Florchuk! Knock ’em dead at the Rookie Tournament and make the Caps’ roster in a few years. [Saw some film, Mr. Florchuck is not a talentless bird! Can pass, dangle and has a reasonable shot.]
