With the NHL’s Reverse Retro 2.0 line set to be revealed on Thursday, the Washington Capitals suited up in some of their new gear as part of it during Tuesday’s practice.

Players skated in black helmets, gloves, and pants in practice. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper had a new mask, pads, and gloves to match.

The Capitals wore black uniforms from 1997-2007 before rebranding to their current home uniforms. The new threads could be based on the look:

However, expect the new design to have a bit more of a modern look to them.

Defenseman Matt Irwin and left-wing Joe Snively also skated in black pants and socks.

More information about the design and how to purchase Reverse Retro 2.0 gear will likely be coming in the very near future.

I’m a Rock the Red kind of woman. Besides, I associate Black and Gold with teams from Pittsburgh, PA.

Yep, needs to be in red white and blue combo. I might buy a black, but never one of these no matter how updated.

Like the NHL and the owners dont need more money at the expense of fans. New unies, moving games to all kinds of channels, what will they do next to make money? Buy a black one, NO. Liked and had one of the old Black and copper ones. As the have team colors that have changed several times, why now have a special one if not just to make money? thanks but no thanks!

This is the Lightning’s 30th year. If they had come up with a jersey where the Bolt could have pierced the 0 in 30, I would have bought it. If they could also have incorporated their 3 Cups into that logo I definitely would have bought it. Their retro doesn’t look bad — regular colors and incorporated Hurricane Ian into it. So I might get it. But probably not. It’s just not special enough, it doesn’t celebrate a special event. To me a special uniform needs to be something like those worn at the Army Navy game and it needs to celebrate a specific event. And I really don’t like the trend across all sports to go with black uniforms.
