Hockey Canada announced the Canadian captains for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships in Edmonton and Washington Capitals center prospect Connor McMichael was among the three alternate captains. Buffalo Sabres forward prospect Dylan Cozens and Colorado Avalanche defensive prospect Bowen Byram will take turns serving as the captain.

McMichael, who was selected 25th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Capitals, recorded 47 goals, 102 points, and a +32 rating in 52 games with the OHL’s London Knights last season.

The 19-year-old recorded five goals and seven points in seven games at last year’s World Junior Championship for Hockey Canada.

Despite being unable to play, Chicago Blackhawks forward prospect Kirby Dach will still be the captain of the team.

Canada will play their first game of the tournament against Germany at Rogers Place in Edmonton (6 PM ET, NHL Network).
