After being named an assistant captain for Team Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships in Edmonton, Washington Capitals center prospect Connor McMichael recorded a goal and three points during the team’s 16-2 win over Germany at Rogers Place.

McMichael one-timed a pass from Buffalo Sabres prospect Dylan Cozens from the right dot and was denied but Vegas Golden Knights prospect Peyton Krebs slid the puck through the legs of German goaltender Arno Tiefensee to make it 4-1 with 0.2 seconds left in the first.

McMichael got a cross-rink pass from Winnipeg Jets prospect Cole Perfetti at the doorstep and fed Cozens in the crease for the tip to make it 12-1 on the power-play just 37 seconds into the third.

McMichael stripped the puck from Ottawa Senators prospect Tim Stutzle and called his own number on a two-on-0ne with Krebs, going high-glove on German goaltender Jonas Gahr to extend the lead to 16-1 with 11:22 to go while shorthanded.

The 19-year-old, who was selected 25th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Capitals, recorded 47 goals, 102 points, and a +32 rating in 52 games with the OHL’s London Knights last season. He centered the first-line between Perfetti and Krebs with captain Kirby Dach out for the tournament.

McMichael and Team Canada face Slovakia at Rogers Place on Sunday at 4 PM ET (NHL Network), looking to start the tournament 2-0.
