Proud of Dowd: Capitals’ Nic Dowd Scores Shorthanded Goal Against Penguins; First Multi-Goal Game of His Career

Washington Capitals center Nic Dowd is having a fantastic day. Already scoring the opening goal and picking up an assist, Dowd scored again, which was a shorthanded goal, in Saturday’s matinee against the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena. Today marks Dowd’s second multi-point game of the season.

Defenseman Brenden Dillon headed to the box for delay of game with 25.5 seconds left in the middle frame. Just 34 seconds into the third period with the penalty kill carrying over, Dowd extended the Capitals’ lead to 4-0 with a shorthanded goal. Forward Carl Hagelin assisted.

Tied for fourth in the league, it is Dowd’s third shorthanded goal of the season.

Additionally, Saturday’s game marked his second multi-point game of the season and the first multi-goal game of his career. Dowd scored the opening goal and picked up an assist earlier.
