It was a Capitals winter wonderland— ice skating, holiday décor, and s’mores. I had the chance to spend time at the new Capitals-themed setting, Capitals Campfire at Camp Wharf on Saturday. Here was my experience down on the Waterfront.
When I arrived, the scents of the wood-burning fire immediately filled the air. Even at four o’clock in the afternoon, families were gathered around the pit roasting jumbo marshmallows for s’mores.
I wanted to explore before making my own sweet treat. Walking down Wharf Street was pleasant despite the bitter cold. Carolers were nestled in different spots enhancing the festive season.
The packed ice rink on Transit Pier was gorgeous as the sun was setting over the Potomac.
“Rock the Rink Skates” will be hosted by the team and include giveaways, beverages, and a DJ. These special events will be held on January 18, January 31, and February 17.
As dusk was falling, I headed back to the campfire with a “Caps S’more” on my mind, which features a peppermint patty wrapped in a chocolate graham cracker.
Open and free to the public, Capitals Campfire runs from December 5 to February 25. It’s the perfect outing for any Capitals fan this winter season.
Smiling through the cold but had an awesome time at the Capitals Campfire this evening! #ALLCAPS | #WharfDC | @TheWharfDC pic.twitter.com/TzkFcfdxa0
