Capitals Recall Milner from South Carolina, Re-assign Samsonov to Hershey

The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Parker Milner from the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) and re-assigned goaltender Ilya Samsonov to the Hershey Bears (AHL), senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. 

Milner’s ECHL season ended yesterday when the Stingrays were eliminated from the post season. The Bears have games 3 and 4 of their first round Calder Cup playoff series with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Tuesday and Thursday in Hershey. Milner will serve as the Capitals third goaltender.

Milner, 28, posted a record of 19-17-3 with a 2.95 goals against average and a .912 save percentage in 40 games with the Stingrays this season. Additionally, the 6’1”, 187-pound goaltender recorded a 2.74 goals against average and a .914 save percentage in South Carolina’s opening round loss to the Orlando Solar Bears in the playoffs. The Pittsburgh native also appeared in three games for Hershey this season, recording a 2-1-0 record with a 2.28 goals against average and a .931 save percentage.

In the 2017-18 season, Milner was named the ECHL goaltender of the year following a 28-7-3 record with a 1.86 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.

Samsonov, 22, has posted a record of 20-14-5 with a 2.70 goals against average and a .898 save percentage in 37 games with the Bears this season. The 6’2”, 205-pound goaltender has recorded three shutouts and posted a 10-0-1 record from Jan. 12 through Feb. 27. Samsonov made 49 saves on 52 shots in his AHL playoff debut against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Samsonov recorded a 12-9-1 record with a 2.31 goals against average and a .926 save percentage in 26 regular season games and a 1-2 record with a 2.30 goals against average and a .913 save percentage in five playoff games with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) during the 2017-18 season. The Magnitogorsk, Russia, native also represented Russia in two international games, recording a 0.99 goals against average and a .956 save percentage.

Washington selected Samsonov with their first round pick, 22nd overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft.

    Yee-hah! The Capitals have goalies, and goalies, and goalies! Undeniably the Franchise is the best in the NHL at choosing and hoarding goaltenders. Or at least they were 1999-2017

    Now let’s eliminate the Dirty Hurricanes and move to Round Two!
