The Washington Capitals placed forward Nathan Walker on waivers on Sunday morning with the intention of sending the 24-year old down to the AHL’s Hershey Bears.

The forward was placed on waivers last season and was claimed by the Edmonton Oilers on December 1. The Oilers later placed him on waivers and the Capitals claimed him. The Oilers were not the only team to submit a waiver claim for the forward.

With Walker on waivers, that almost certainly means that center Travis Boyd will be ready to return after missing 14 games with a lower-body injury dating back to the preseason.

Walker has played three games with the Capitals this season, recording one assist. He tallied his first NHL goal in his first career game on October 7, 2017 in a 6-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens. He appeared in one playoff game with the Capitals last season, recording an assist.

Walker posted nine goals, 22 points, and a -8 rating in 40 games with the Bears last season. In his AHL career, he has tallied 43 goals, 91 points, and +22 rating in 243 games.

Walker was selected by the Capitals with their third-round pick in 2014 and became the first Australian born player drafted into the NHL.
