Nicklas Backstrom Thinks Christian Djoos Is Ready for the NHL

Christian Djoo’s second full season with the Hershey Bears was by most accounts a great success. The Sernoffsky Award winner  registered 13 goals and 45 assists for 58 points in 66 games for the Hershey Bears – third overall in scoring on the Bears.

In a recent interview with Sweden’s Sportbladet, Capitals’ star centerman Nicklas Backstrom said “I’ve followed Christian and saw that he had a good season. I really hope they give him a real chance. Sometimes they can hold on (wait), but I hope they don’t do it with Christian. He is so skilled and smart, so I don’t think there will be any big problems.

Djoos told Sportsbladet “It looks pretty good for the younger (prospects), there are some vacancies open. I need to go there and fight to take one of the places. Of course it would be really fun and that is obviously the goal. It is going to take hard work this summer to get ready.”

Djoos was asked about his play last season. “It went well and I gained a lot of confidence. It went well and was a fun season.” Djoos was awarded a two-year contract worth $ 1.3 million, with the second year being a one-way contract, which means the same salary in the NHL as in AHL. A clear sign that Washington sees a future in the Swedish back.
