Alex Ovechkin recorded his 1,400th NHL point against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday Night. He earned it when he scored a goal at 15:10 of the first period.
Ovechkin now ranks 21st on the all-time list in NHL points. The next milestone in career points will come when he passes Dave Hawerchuk, who ranks 20th with 1,409 points.

This season Ovechkin has steadily moved up the ranks in NHL goals and NHL points. For career goals, he has tied and passed Marcel Dionne (731), Brett Hull (741), and Jaromir Jagr (766).
For career points, he has risen from 35th place to 21st place, passing numerous greats this season, most recently Jari Kurri (1,398), Luc Robitaille (1,394), and Brett Hull (1,391), and included players such as Mike Gartner, Guy LaFleur, Johnny Bucyk, Brendan Shanahan, and Dave Andreychuk.
Ovechkin has also reached first place in career power play goals, passing Dave Andreychuk, and tied Gordie Howe in game winning goals. He also passes Phil Esposito for the third-most goals by a player aged 36 or older, trailing Howe’s 44 by one goal.
With his 43rd goal of the season, Ovechkin has passed Phil Esposito (42g in 1978-79) for the third-most goals by a player aged 36 or older in a season in NHL history. Ovechkin now trails Gordie Howe (44g in 1968-69) by one goal for second.
