Lars Eller on Capitals’ Monday Scrum with Rangers: “I Could Find You Several Clips Of Similar Situations…It Happens Frequently, But It’s Not Being Put Into Context In This Situation”

On Wednesday, Washington Capitals center Lars Eller spoke to the media and discussed his thoughts on the scrum that occurred during Monday’s game against the New York Rangers and why the situation about forward Tom Wilson is being “blown out of proportion.”

Eller said the Capitals “have to be prepared for anything” given how Monday’s game went. “If they’re [the Rangers] going to start something, we’re going to approach it the same way we’ve always done. We’re going to protect ourselves [and] protect our teammates as we would do in any given situation.”

He believes the incident was “blown out of proportion” and that Wilson is handling the situation “like a pro”. “I don’t think people see things clearly when it comes to Tom, what things he’s involved in…I think there’s already a biased opinion about him.”

Eller mentioned he watched Tuesday’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers and the incident that occurred between Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Flyers forward Travis Konecny. He said, “Crosby and Konecny got tangled up and one guy jumps on the other guy’s back and puts him in a headlock and the guy retaliates — slams him into the ice and gives him a couple of jabs to the back of the head, and that was a penalty.”

“One situation is blown out of proportion I think because of the player involved,” Eller said. “This was just an example from last night. I could find you several clips of similar situations…It happens frequently, but it’s not being put into context in this situation.

Eller reiterated that he doesn’t want to see a player get injured, but believes a player entering a scrum like the one that broke out on Monday should know what the outcome is, especially if the player jumped on an opposing player’s back and wrestled.

“It’s not really stuff we haven’t seen before, so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I think it’s being made a big deal out of it because it was Tom.”

Lars knows what’s up. And as always, he speaks eloquently about the facts.

Terrible example they will never say anything about crybaby

It’s actually a very good example, that happened less than 24 hours after Wilson’s scrum. Very similar. Crosby try’s to slam Konecny’s face into the ice three times.
