Ilya Samsonov Re-assigned To Hershey Bears

The Washington Capitals announced on Wednesday that Ilya Samsonov has been re-assigned from the Capitals Taxi Squad to the Hershey Bears.

Capitals’ head coach Peter Laviolette indicated on Tuesday that Samsonov still needed some work to get up to game speed, and that he would be headed to Hershey. The Bears face the Penguins in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton today at 5:00 pm.

The Capitals recalled Samsonov from Hershey on February 21 after Samsonov started two games for the Bears. He went 1-0-1-0, stopping 46 of 52 shots for a 2.95 GAA and a .885 save percentage in the two games played.

Samsonov has played in just two games for the Capitals so far in the 2020-21 NHL season, before he was added to the NHL’s COVID-related absences list in January 20. He was 1-0-0-1 with a 3.36 GAA and a .868 save percentage in his two appearances. Samsonov returned from the COVID-related absences list on February 8th and was re-assigned to Hershey on February 14.

Samsonov just can’t seem to get it going, with ATV accident, missing the playoffs, etc. Hopefully he can find more sturdier ground now.
