While every game in the Hershey Bears’ season is one to look forward to in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the team’s annual Teddy Bear Toss Game is one that holds extra meaning for fans and the team alike. Every season, fans bring stuffed bears and animals to throw onto the ice to be donated to children in need during the holiday season. And the tradition continued today, when Christian Djoos (fresh off from being re-assigned to Chocolatetown) scored the Bears’ first goal to set off the tossing of the “teddies” against the Hartford Wolf Pack. In the process, Hershey fans once again set a new world record in the aftermath of the goal.
The Bears broke the World Record they set last season of 34,798 bears, with a record 45.650 stuffed bears and animals being thrown onto the Giant Center ice. The team partnered with CommunityAid and local television station ABC27 and will donate all the bears collected to local schools, food banks, churches, American Cancer Society among others, with CommunityAid donating 25 cents per toy donated.

Djoos scored the Bears’ first goal of the game at the 8:11 mark of the first period, which triggered the launching of thousands of stuffed bears and animals onto the Giant Center ice. Joe Snively and Mike Sgarbossa were credited with assists on the goal. The goal was Djoos’ second of the season.
