And that was all of the scoring in the first frame. The Flyers led in five-on-five shot attempts, 17-14, but the Capitals led in scoring chances, 7-4, high-danger chances, 5-1 and expected goals for .68 to .13.

Go Caps !!
We are coming for you Lavi!
It’s been a crazy last few days. Who’d have thunk it that a team would win three in a row who has next to no offense and two defensemen down with injury (one of them injured in the first of those three)
And for Ovi who had a very down season until the break would score.
The Caps actually did not eliminate the Flyers. According to the AP, the Wings did that about a minute before Torts pulled his goalie when their game against the Habs went into OT giving the Wings at least one more point than the Flyers could get. So when Torts pulled the goalie, they had already missed the playoffs.
Yeah, I was wondering what happened first. Thx Torts and his staff who apparently didn’t relay the late Detroit goal to him! And thx Detroit – that’s real character right there 😁
And so the pieces fell into place for the Caps, and they made use of it, and they earned it.
In his postgame Torts said that he learned about Detroit just after Osh scored the ENG. He said that he pulled their goalie at the right time for their game, that he wasn’t waiting on news from Detroit.
More than once was very complimentary of Caps defense.
Un-be-lievable!!! I am speechless – and beyond happy.
Thanks for a great regular season — Jon and Diane and all the crew at NovaCapsFans!
Thanks also to all the commenters, regulars and anonymouses. Would be a boring fan site without you!
Hear, hear! (here, here?)
And of course it’s not done yet 🙂
Have been reading the Pits papers and fansites. Interesting. Change a few names and the final outcome and I could have been reading about the Caps. These two teams have just been so twinned since Ovi and Sid were drafted.
I read some Pens blogs, and I haven’t seen so many sour grapes since I visited a winery. “Caps suck, Red Wings were better, if only Sidney had played all 6 positions every game blah blah, whine whine, Caps stole our playoff spot”
Warms my heart!
I skipped the comments. The actual columnists were fairly sensible. And not kind to the Pits.
I would say Torts did the right thing. You can’t really worry too much about things that are out of your control. You can’t be scoreboard watching, when you need a regulation win. But I am a bit biased.
Let’s kick some Rags ass!
Go Caps!
Incredible. After being “sellers” at the trade deadline.
Recall the one lopsided loss to rangers followed holiday break where they had to travel day of game. Kuemper was in goal too. Otherwise, 2-1 against them this season.
