Carlson was bleeding heavily following the hit from the puck, but skated to the locker room under his own power, trailed by Capitals head athletic trainer Jason Serbus.
Laviolette on Carlson: “It’s tough that Carly wasn’t there tonight because he sits right next to Ovi and is such a loud, vocal piece inside the locker room. Right now he is under the care of team physicians, and is being transported to the hospital for precautionary evaluation.”

Good news but still worrisome. Are Nicky and Tom still sure they want to come back?
Yeah, still under medical supervision is a bit worrisome. Hopefully just precautionary.
Prayers and best wishes to the Carlson family
I was at the game. The amount of blood on the ice was insane! Could have broken his jaw in addition to losing a bunch of teeth. I imagine there is a lot of work to do on him. But he is a hockey player. He will be back. But man that was grewsome!
Figure concussion, lost teeth and broken nose at the least. Just hope not a broken jaw also. Wishing John a quick healing and recovery!! And whether a hockey player or not please take time to heal properly and don’t rush back!!!!!!
It looked to me higher, check bones, orbital, temple damage. Hope it wasn’t.
NHL went all to helmets, goalies to masks, players to visors. Will the NHL go to full face masks for all players?
He had to have his ear reattached
