The Washington Capitals announced their roster for their third preseason game tonight against the Red Wings in Detroit. Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and forwards Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie are expected to make their preseason debuts.
ROSTER (Two will be scratched)
Forwards: Alex Ovechkin, Henrik Borgstrom, Dylan Strome, Lars Eller, Garnet Hathaway, Hendrix Lapierre, Axel Jonssson-Fjallby, Beck Malenstyn, Brett Leason, Aliaksei Protas, T.J. Oshie, Joe Snively and Evgeny Kuznetsov.
Defensemen: Nick Jensen, Vincent Iorio, Martin Fehervary, Lucas Johansen, Erik Gustafsson, John Carlson and Bobby Nardella.
Goaltenders: Darcy Kuemper, Charlie Lindgren
Prospect Notes:
Defenseman Bobby Nardella could get a second consecutive start following his stand-out performance against the Flyers on Wednesday. Forwards Hendrix Lapierre and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby could get their second games of the preseason. Defensemen Vincent Iorio and Lucas Johansen could also make their second starts of the preseason.

I have always felt that preseason games should be considered fan base builders. Remove the seats from the season packages. Price them low so that students and families can really afford them. Make deals with youth hockey clubs, boy and girl scouts and clubs, schools, churches, etc. Give people a real opportunity to become fans and maybe ticket buyers.
But that also means televising the preseason games. Bolts played Canes in Raleigh, no TV. Because of Ian, two Bolts home games were cancelled and one game added in Nashville which the Bolts are using as training camp. No TV, no radio. But I was able to watch both games by listening to the Canes and Preds radio broadcast through the NHL website and it also included the in-Arena video. In each case, I tried loads of apps on my Roku, Fire TV, and phone before finding one that would work.
So I haven’t given up hope to watch the Caps-Wings game. But if not, Walton does call a good game. I just prefer to watch prospects, not just hear about them.
These are great ideas, Fyre. You need to work for the NHL/Capitals. I always thought the AHL did a pretty good job of marketing youth, holding morning school-day games, etc. NHL will never do that due to loss in television revenue.
Yes, you can see a lot of good ideas in the AHL and ECHL where they depend much more on local revenue than TV.
I grew up impressed by how the Tampa Bay Rowdies introduced soccer. Their marketing was unreal. And relentless. They have always been the gold standard for me.
Bolts are more local oriented than the Caps. As an example, Bolts owner gives $50,000 to a local charity every home game with check presentation during the game.
that is a great idea but Ted is to cheap and lives in the past, relying on the glory and way he made money with AOL to continue making money. He really has no interest in doing anything for the public, organizations or fans that does not line his pockets. He is not like Abe at all. If he were interested in really winning he never would have let Trotz leave over a few dollars as he tossed away more money on bad salaries for players that it would have cost to keep Trotz.

Think that the tell will be who plays in games 4,5 and 6. Especially 5 and 6! Keeping MoJo will force someone of the roster who should be there!
A lot of different players will play Saturday night so guys aren’t playing back to back. Then lots of Sunday cuts for guys already destined for Hershey whose camp opens on Monday. Those on the bubble will stick around and get another game or two to make the roster. McMichael may be sent down since he doesn’t have to go to waivers and they don’t want him to be a healthy scratch. Same with Protas. Snively and AJF could be the extras so they don’t lose them through waivers. Snively definitely will be kept otherwise he is gone. 7 th D up for grabs between Irwin and Johansson

I am so happy The Caps are finally playing again, I know they don’t get much time off in between seasons but it seems like a lifetime to me. The Caps are the only sports team I watch. I have been a Caps fan since the day I was born, I have loved them no matter what won or lose. 2018 Stanley Cup Win I cried for hours(no joke actual hours) I have been hoping they would win ever since I can remember, my dad was always a caps fan and of course that made me one when I was born. And have been watching the Caps ever since, I have Ovechkins’ name tatted on me twice and plan on getting all my other players too. I really hope we get another Stanley Cup Win this Season. But no matter how the season turns out I always have been and always will be A CAPS til I die. LETS GO CAPS!!
