The Washington Capitals re-signed Washington Capitals winger Marcus Johansson to a one-year, $1.1 million contract. The Capitals acquired Johansson at the 2022 NHL trade deadline from the Seattle Kraken for Daniel Sprong, their fourth-round pick in 2022 and their sixth-round pick in 2023.
Johansson began his NHL career with the Capitals in 2010 and player for seven years before being traded to the New Jersey Devils on July 2, 2017. Johansson played two seasons with the Devils before being traded to the Boston Bruins at the 2019 trade deadline.
Johansson then signed with the Minnesota Wild for the 2020-21 season, before moving on to the Seattle Kraken for their inaugural season.
Johansson recorded three goals and three assists in 18 regular season games with the Capitals in 2022. He notched a goal and an assist in six playoff games for the Capitals.

The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward Marcus Johansson to a one-year, $1.1 million contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.
Johansson, 31, recorded 29 points (9g, 20a) in 69 games with Washington and the Seattle Kraken last season.
Johansson, who was drafted by the Capitals in the first round, 24th overall, in the 2009 NHL Draft, was re-acquired from Seattle for forward Daniel Sprong, a 2022 fourth-round pick and a 2023 sixth-round pick on March 21.
The 6’1″, 203-pound forward played seven seasons with Washington from 2010-17, compiling 290 points (102g, 188a) in 501 games. Johansson is one of 30 players in franchise history to play 500 games for the Capitals.
In 753 career games with Washington, the New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild and Seattle, Johansson has recorded 407 points (144g, 263a).
Johansson additionally has 43 points (14g, 29a) in 103 career playoff games, including four game-winning goals and an overtime-winning goal as a member of the Capitals on April 23, 2017, against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Landskrona, Sweden native has represented Sweden in the Olympics (2014) and the World Junior Championships (2009, 2010). Johansson won a silver medal with Sweden at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, won a bronze medal and served as captain for Sweden at the 2010 World Junior Championship and captured a silver medal with Sweden at the 2009 World Junior Championship.

Same here. And the re-signing of Irwin. They both actually played half-way decent last season, so I guess o shouldn’t be that surprised.
You know “playing half-way decent” can’t be what the Caps are about. Whom do we envision will have a great year in 22-23 and make the Caps a real Cup contender? I can’t name anybody. I love the Caps and love our players, but most are beyond their prime and I don’t see anybody under contract that looks like the next generation STAR. Without the Backstrom money, we will struggle to make the play-offs whether or not Nick plays.
Ovechkin, Oshie, Kuznetsov, Mantha can all have great years. Turn that frown upside down.

Thanks but no thanks and this is worse than the Brown trade as now we are stuck with although small salary a player who is washed up. Sorry GMBM but this signing stinks of BM, what i the world are you thinking as we have younger players who can do better than this washed up old nag. what you trying to prove to Ted and the fans that trading for him and giving up a pick and a player was not wrong? Well even ex-GMGM is no longer a GM and maybe you should follow him but instead please retire as you are NOT the one to lead this team into a rebuild and back to a Cup with signings like this and trades like the one for Brown and the one that got MoJo here. It is truly time to go OUTSIDE the organization to find a NEW GM and staff not recycle people currently on staff.
