ESPN’s Emily Kaplan provided an update on the status of Washington Capitals forward Carl Hagelin during Saturday’s Penguins-Capitals game. She said it is “highly unlikely” that Hagelin will return this season, but he is “hopeful” he will be able to resume his NHL playing career.
Kaplan added that the injury occurred at the end of Capitals practice, and that Hagelin’s shield was up when he was clipped by a teammates stick. He underwent a 5-6 hour surgery and still requires one additional surgery.

Shame to see any player get hurt especailly in practice. Hope he has a speedy recovery. This is a good learning experience for younger players to always have your shield down.
Good luck to Hagelin in his recovery. Hope his second eye surgery goes well.
Scary stuff. I had a friend who had a detached retina and there was actual concern for his life. Not sure how that works, aneurysms, etc.
Sidney is the biggest baby.
Wow, such a long surgery and recouping time. I hope there will be complete restoration of his eyesight and no long term damage.
Carl Hagelin, the Pete Rose of Hockey, Mr. Hussle! Miss you on the ice. Gett well soon.
That’s a good analogy, sans the gambling issues.
