Capitals’ Richard Panik, Jonas Seigenthaler Leave Second Period Of Wednesday’s 4-3 Win Over Maple Leafs Following Collision

Washington Capitals forward Richard Panik and defenseman Jonas Seigenthaler both left the second period of Wednesday’s 4-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs with upper-body injuries and neither returned.

Panik and Seigenthaler collided with each other in the final minute of second period. Seigenthaler showed signs of pain on the bench, holding his left shoulder.

The team said that both will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

The good news for the Capitals is that Michal Kempny, who has not played since March 20 and underwent hamstring surgery on April 2, is likely going to return over the weekend.

The Capitals host the New York Rangers on Friday night (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington).

If Kempny is unavailable against the Rangers, the Capitals will likely have to recall a defenseman, maybe Martin Fehervary, prior to the game. Center Nic Dowd would likely draw into the open forward spot.

Given the team’s tight salary cap situation, making a move may require some additional maneuvering.
