Capitals Re-call Travis Boyd From Hershey

The Washington Capitals have recalled forward Travis Boyd from Hershey, the team announced on Monday. Boyd was sent to Hershey for a conditioning assignment on x, after missing the first 12 games of the season with a lower body injury. 

Boyd was sent to Hershey on October 31 for a two-game conditioning stint, which included  a home-and-home set against the Rochester Americans. Boyd recorded one assist in the two-game set. Boyd will center the Capitals 4th line in tonight’s game versus Edmonton.

Boyd, 25, appeared in two games and recorded an assist with the Bears during his conditioning loan.

The 5’11”, 181-pound forward has played in seven career games for the Capitals after making his NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 4, 2017. Boyd recorded his first career point, an assist, against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 18.

Boyd recorded 47 points (15g, 32a) in 61 games with Hershey last season, which ranked second on the Bears. Additionally, the Hopkins, Minn. native’s 26 power play points (7g, 19a) led the Bears. In 215 games with the Bears, Boyd has recorded 165 points (53g, 112a).

Drafted with the Capitals’ sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft, Boyd played in four seasons for the University of Minnesota and recorded 96 points (32g, 64a) in 148 collegiate games. Boyd won the Big Ten championship in the 2014-15 season and was named to the Big Ten’s Second All-Star Team. Additionally, Boyd won a gold medal for Team USA in the U-18 World Junior Championship in 2011.

    Ahoy, Travis Boyd! —- Some young, new Caps player (like you) needs to make something BIG happen, this season, before Christmas. Score some goals. Make some big hits. Do SOMETHING. There are fancy rookies lighting it up on other NHL teams, and some 2nd or 3rd year players doing the same. Will you be the next Red Hot NHL forward? Sure would help get the Caps out of their early-season funk
