Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin participated in Moscow Dynamo’s open training session on Sunday at the VTB Arena in Moscow. He was joined by Capitals prospect Bogdan Trineyev in the team’s first public fan event since 2019.
In 2020, the presentation of the team was held online, and in 2021, due to the unstable epidemiological situation, it was completely canceled.
Before the session, there was a presentation of the coaching staff and the main team for the 2022/23 season. Ovechkin was the last on the ice, donning his number 32. The Washington forward did not take full part in the training, limiting himself to a small roll-out, one shootout attempt and conversations on the ice with coaches and players.
“I liked the atmosphere of the open training. We play for the fans, so such events are very important, both for the audience and for the whole team, the club. Everyone missed hockey, so they were glad to see each other.”
Ovechkin has been a long-time supporter of Moscow Dynamo and played for the club from 2001 to 2005, before being drafted by the Capitals and coming to the NHL. He also played for the club during the NHL lockout in 2012-13. Ovechkin’s father, Mikhail Ovechkin, played soccer for the club.
Ovechkin has yet to identify a specific date for his return to Washington, but did say in a recent interview that he would probably return in late August or early September.
Ovi’s loyalty, regarding whatever, is unmatched. Glad he’s in my side.
Trineyev wearing the double 8’s. It’s probably a coincidence…;)
Ha! He worships the single 8. I bet his lips are quivering in the photo above. Hasn’t spent much time with Ovi….yet.
