Late in the second period, the Washington Capitals were down to the Dallas Stars 2-1 and were in desperate need of a spark. Dmitry Orlov provided that spark with one of the dirtiest goals you will see this season.

At 13:12 in the second period, Orlov came down the ice and faked out John Klingberg with a dangle move that made Alex Ovechkin smile. Here’s the tape:

“I saw Klin (Klingberg) jump on the rush… I was a little bit tired but I kind of pushed myself. Tried to make a move and work on the timing, hit the net and you know, scored the goal. It was a big goal for us and we just gotta keep going,” Orlov told Alan May of NBC Sports Washington during the second intermission.

The look on Alex Ovechkin’s face after that goal says it all.

Orlov and the Caps would go on to win in thrilling fashion thanks to a game-winning goal by Andre Burakovsky in overtime.
