Bobby Carpenter, who played for the Washington Capitals from 1981-1987 and again in 1992-1993, has a new job.  He will now be working as an Assistant Coach for Mike Keenan for Kunlun Red Star, the second-year KHL team based in Beijing, China. 

Carpenter recently gave an interview with Artem Boshko of Hockey.ru in which they discussed many subjects, including his time with the Capitals, his overall hockey career, and his children.

Carpenter talked about his daughter, Alexandra, who also plays hockey, and is a member of the US Olympic Women’s Hockey team.

“She is very versatile. In addition to hockey and soccer, she also plays softball. At the moment, her softball stats are fantastic.

He also talked about his elder son, Bobo, who now plays hockey at Boston University, and his younger son, Brendan, who is also away at college and playing football there.

Carpenter reports his wife will occasionally come visit him in Beijing, especially with his children now grown or away at college.

He was asked what attracted him to this job opportunity. Carpenter said he was excited for the chance to work with both Keenan and Igor Kravchuk, saying they are both great coaches.  In working with Keenan, he said, “When Keenan calls, the choice is very simple”.
