After his freshman season at Boston College ended with a 2-0 loss to Denver in the National Championship game, Ryan Leonard chose to return to the Eagles for his sophomore campaign, instead of joining the Washington Capitals for a playoff run. This seemingly brought Leonard’s season to a close. However, this is not the case. Leonard was added to the roster for the United States for the upcoming 2024 IIHF World Championships in Czechia beginning on Sunday.

The Amherst, Massachusetts native is coming off a successful first season at Boston College. He set the program record for goals by a freshman by scoring 31 goals, breaking the previous mark set by Brian Gionta. Leonard finished with 60 points and was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. He was also selected as a 2nd team CCM/ACHA All-American and a 2nd team Hockey East All-Star. The winger earned the Most Outstanding Player honor at the Providence Regional, netting two goals in both matchups to help lead the Eagles to the Frozen Four.

Suiting up for the United States at the World Championship will be the second time this year Leonard will have represented his country. He helped the red, white and blue to the gold medal at the World Junior Championships. Leonard will be joined by one of his linemates from the World Juniors, as well as Boston College, with center Will Smith also being chosen for the squad.

The World Championships will commence on May 10 and run through May 26. The Americans open with Sweden on May 10 and will also face Germany, Slovakia, France, Poland, Kazakhstan and Latvia in Group B play. The top four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals.

Short of paying an exorbitant amount for a large streaming package (Fubo, Direct TV Stream, erc), is there a more reasonable way to get the NHL Network?

Good question. I believe Canadian network (TSN) streams on their website, if you are in Canada. It’s been hit or miss for US folks

Seems cheapest are Sling Blue or Orange, either with Sports Package, will get you NHLN. Total cost is $51 US.

I know of some bootleg sites that will be carrying these games, but I won’t say what they are, since it might be a violation of this blog’s Terms of Service. Do a Google search, you may find them.

Excellent measuring stick to see how Leonard currently stacks up against NHL players. Must see tv.

Hopefully he’ll get some games, even if just in the pre-tournament games.
