Lucas Johansen Clears Waivers, Will Report To AHL Hershey

Washington Capitals defenseman Lucas Johansen has cleared waivers and will report to AHL Hershey. Johansen made the Capitals roster out of training camp and played pretty well during the six games he competed in, but fell victim to a numbers game and was waived by the team on Monday.

The 2016 first-round selection racked up one point, but played a career-high 20:11 worth of ice time on Nov. 11 against the New York Islanders.

Johansen played on the top pair with John Carlson the following night against the Vegas Golden Knights and broke up a 3-on-1 odd-man rush.

With Johansen back in Hershey, the Capitals should be announcing the acquisition of free agent defenseman Ethan Bear, who was spotted at MedStar Capitals Iceplex Tuesday morning during practice.

The Bears will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 22 when they take on the Springfield Thunderbirds.
