Capitals’ Ryan Leonard Named Hockey East Rookie Of The Month for November

Washington Capitals prospect Ryan Leonard was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for November. Leonard was most recently named to the Hockey East Player of the Week following a four-goal weekend against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Harvard Crimson respectively. 

The eighth overall selection is currently riding an eight-game point streak, with 11 points (eight goals, three assists) during that time frame.

The rookie winger is tied with Boston University’s Macklin Celebrini for most goals among freshmen in the conference. Leonard currently has 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) on the campaign, which is also sixth in Hockey East overall.

Boston College takes on the Northeastern Huskies on Dec.1-2 for a home-and-home series.

After winning the corresponding weekly awards on Monday, freshmen Jacob Fowler (Goaltender of the Month) and Ryan Leonard (Rookie of the Month) were named monthly award winners by Hockey East on Thursday.

Fowler earned his second straight Goaltender of the Month award after posting a 6-1-1 record in his eight starts during the month of November. The rookie netminder registered a 1.85 goals against average and a .939 save percentage, making a total of 231 saves. He collected his first collegiate shutout with a 31-save performance on Nov. 18 at UConn.

Leonard had at least one point in all eight November games, scoring eight goals and adding three assists for 11 points. The winger posted a four-game goal streak to begin the month and closed it with back-to-back two-goal performances. Leonard finished the month with a plus-5 rating, 30 shots on goal, and a pair of game-winning goals.
