Mitchell Gibson Recalled, Clay Stevenson Loaned To AHL Hershey

The Washington Capitals have made some goaltending changes as the regular season opens up in exactly one week.

The Caps loaned Clay Stevenson to the Hershey Bears and recalled Mitchell Gibson to the big club. Stevenson backed up Hunter Shepard in the first preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres. He played the second half of the game, facing nine shots and allowing all three goals in the game.

Stevenson is the projected backup for Hershey in the upcoming season.

Gibson did not appear in any preseason games. The Harvard product is headed into his first professional season, likely with the South Carolina Stingrays.

The Capitals play one more exhibition game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Capital One Arena before opening the regular season against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 13.
