Team Sweden announced its final roster for the 2023 IIHF World Championships (WC) that begin on Friday. Capitals defenseman Rasmus Sandin made the final roster while newly acquired Hardy Haman Aktell did not make the final 25-man roster.

A WC roster may consist of a maximum of 25 players (22 skaters, 3 goalkeepers). Game rosters consist of a maximum of 22 players (20 skaters, 2 goalkeepers), with a third goalkeeper as “emergency backup”.

Sandin and  Hardy Haman Aktell spent this past weekend playing for Team Sweden in the “Czech Hockey Games”. The tournament was a tuneup for Team Sweden before this week’s 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship gets underway on Friday. Sandin played on the second pairing while Haman Aktell was an extra/4th defenseman in the first game and a third pairing defenseman in the final two games.

Team Sweden plays in Group A in Tampere together with Germany, Austria, Finland, Hungary, France, Denmark and the USA. The game schedule and other information can be found on the IIHF’s website .

I’m looking forward to watching Aktell in Hershey next season. First year in North American ice.

I feel like this was a savvy pickup by GMBM. 6’3 220. Wins championships. Scores. Great +/-. Will be waiver exempt next year so worth a look. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I don’t see him playing at NHL level for at least a year. He’s never played in North America, played on North American rink sizes, etc.
