After spending the week in Minnesota and Indiana, and the day with Mike Booi in Michigan on Friday, the Stanley Cup headed north of the border to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to spend the day with Capitals defenseman Madison Bowey on Saturday. Madison started his day eating a bit of his grandmother’s borscht out of the Stanley Cup.
Children’s Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba
One of the first stops of the day for the Stanley Cup and Madison Bowey was Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg. Madison visited with several of the patients and families, and posed for a few photos.
Varsity View Sports Complex, Winnipeg, Manitoba
The first public event was held at Varsity View Sports Complex in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from 3-6pm, local time. Bowey spent his youth hockey years in the Winnipeg area, and is a former Varsity View Falcon.
As has been the case all summer, the lines to see Lord Stanley were long. Some of the attendees would mention later they waited up to five hours just for a chance to see the Cup.
Bowey and the Stanley Cup arrived in style at the event facility.
Bowey opened the event with a brief speech for those in attendance:

“My hockey career began here, at this great community club in this wonderful hockey city, and this is my chance to pay tribute to everyone who helped me get started, and encouraged me to keep going,” Bowey says. “It’s a great honour to have this privilege and I can’t wait to celebrate back home in my community.”
“Playing minor hockey here, especially right behind us here in this rink, I think that’s where you truly love the game, and I think I had to come back and show that support, and show that love and how appreciative I am to this community.
The 23-year-old said he also wants to inspire the next generation of kids who dream of playing in the NHL too. “Help the younger guys that are striving to be where I am right now, and I think if I can just come back and help out the community as much I can, it goes a long way.”
After the event at the Varsity View Sportsplex, Madison was off to a nearby baseball diamond to throw-out the first pitch at tonight’s 18U AAA Provincial game.
Bowey concluded his day with the Stanley Cup with a private party in suburban Winnipeg.
