The Washington Capitals fell to the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 Sunday night at Honda Center. The loss dropped the Capitals record to 44-17-7 (95 points). The Capitals next travel home to host the Minnesota Wild Tuesday night at Verizon Center. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m.
Braden Holtby got the start in goal for the Caps. Andre Burakovsky missed his 12th consecutive game due to a hand injury. Kevin Shattenkirk served the first of his two game suspension. Nate Schmidt replaced Shattenkirk in the lineup. Taylor Chorney was the healthy scratches for the Caps. This was the final game of the west coast road trip for the Capitals.

QUICK NOTES
- Caps gave up three unanswered goals by the midway point of the second period.
- John Carlson scored his 7th goal of the season on a power play in the second period.
- Washington’s 4-game losing streak is the first such losing streak since November 2014.

FIRST PERIOD
The first period would be scoreless. The Ducks outshot the Capitals 10-7 for the opening frame. The Ducks led in shots on goal 8-2 at one point early in the period. Both teams were 0-2 on the power play.
SECOND PERIOD
The Ducks would strike first on a turnover by the Caps in their own defensive zone. Corey Perry would intercept a Lars Eller pass and knock it home of the first goal of the game.
The Ducks would stretch their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Corey Perry at the 9:21 mark of the middle frame.
The Ducks would make it 3-0 on a goal by Rickard Rakell at 9:49 of the second period.
The Capitals would finally get on the board with a power play goal by John Carlson at evg12:10 of the middle frame.
The period would end with the Ducks leading 3-1. The Caps outshot the Ducks 13-12 for the second period. The Ducks led 22-20 in shots on goal for the first two periods.
THIRD PERIOD
The Ducks would make it 4-1 on a power play goal by Ryan Getzlaf at 4:27 of the final frame.
Marcus Johansson would close the gap to 4-2 with a goal at 4:57 of the third period.
The Ducks would add another to make it 5-2 with a goal by Ryan Kesler at 12:42 of the final frame.
