What’s an Alex Ovechkin Signed Jersey Worth?

ovi8

If you’re a Capitals memorabilia collector like me, there are many times you find yourself wondering what exactly something is worth, or what might be construed as a good price for a piece of memorabilia. You might be confronted with a certain signed item and have a ballpark idea of what the item might be worth, but you have no hard numbers (data) to go by.

NoVa Caps has decided to start looking at the current costs and values of certain Capitals memorabilia items available on the market today, and try to determine general pricing guidance for Capitals memorabilia collectors.  This is the first installment of a larger research project, so stay tuned.

We decided to start off by looking at autographed Alex Ovechkin jerseys (no framing, personal inscriptions, game-worn, etc. just a signed jersey.)  NoVa Caps found eight different jersey-types currently available on the market.  We then conducted an exhaustive search for all available cost information related to each of the eight jersey types available on the market.  The following table provides an average cost of each of the different versions.  The complete data spreadsheet can be found after the page jump that follows the table.

(All data reflects current costs as of July 25, 2015).

Several items of note.  It was interesting to see the the current away jersey (not 3rd/alternate) is trending $150 more than the current home jersey.  That may be due to the fact that there just aren’t that many on the market.  So, if you are looking for greatest value, get Ovi to sign a current away jersey.  In addition, autographed Winter Classic jerseys are coming down a bit in price, but are still $100 more expensive than the normal home red jersey.  The data sheet follows the jump below on the next page.
