Collectors of Alex Ovechkin memorabilia got a significant update the moment Upper Deck published its full card list for this year's Extended Series, covering the 2024-25 product.
According to the company — the sole maker holding an NHL license — a set of eight serial-numbered, autographed "Young Guns" rookies bearing Ovechkin's name had been slipped into the release. Marking UD's third such flagship installment, the hobby edition of the series reached shelves on the 29th of May, with a retail counterpart due to follow June 11.
His "Young Guns" issue first surfaced years ago within Upper Deck's Series 2 from the 2005-06 set. For this special offering, the firm repurchased eight ungraded examples and had him autograph each. The signed pieces are numbered sequentially from 1/8 onward to 7/8, with the eighth and last labeled GR8/8.
On secondary marketplaces such as eBay, standard editions of his rookie typically command roughly $1,000 and up.
Landing one of these scarce inserts is possible solely through the pricier hobby edition. At present a single box averages about $120 across online retailers and card shops.
After he overtook Wayne Gretzky atop the all-time goals list a season ago, Ovechkin's image now adorns the packaging and the packs as well.
Aside from that small batch of Ovechkin signatures, an assortment of sets will showcase other Capitals. Among the names: Logan Thompson, Taylor Raddysh, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Jakob Chychrun, Brandon Duhaime, Matt Roy, Dylan Strome, Tom Wilson, Pierrick Dubé, and Ivan Miroshnichenko. On top of all that, plenty of further everyday inserts and assorted cards will feature Ovechkin himself.
