The Washington Capitals announced on Wednesday morning that they have re-signed defenseman Rasmus Sandin to a five-year contract that carries a $4.6 million cap hit. The 23-year-old could have become a restricted free agent on July 1.
Sandin has three goals, 20 points, a -9 rating, 46.89% five-on-five Corsi-for percentage, 46.6% five-on-five expected goals-for percentage, and 47.24% five-on-five scoring chances-for percentage in 52 games this season, where he has averaged 21:19 per game (second among Washington defensemen), including 1:19 on the power play (second) and 17 seconds on the penalty kill (eighth).
Washington acquired Sandin on February 28, 2023 from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for the 28th overall pick last June and defenseman Erik Gustafsson.
