ARLINGTON, Va. — After an off day on Thursday, the Washington Capitals were back practicing at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Friday ahead of Saturday’s matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Capitals are going to get a little bit healthy heading into Saturday. Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery confirmed during his media availability that Trevor van Riemsdyk and Anthony Mantha will return to the lineup. Van Riemsdyk had missed the last four games due to a lower-body injury and Mantha had missed the last three after taking a puck to the face against the Florida Panthers.
Martin Fehervary was seen in a non-contact jersey but did not participate in practice, so he will not play on Saturday. Carbery said that next week he might be able to practice.

Meanwhile, Joel Edmundson will make his return soon. He has been recovering from a broken right hand that he suffered before the season started. Carbery says that he is “to be determined” and will get the post practice report to see where he is at. Edmundson was a full participant in practice.
Darcy Kuemper is expected to dress after taking a puck to the lower body during practice. Carbery says that they will have to see how he responds post practice. It is unclear whether he will be in between the pipes against the Blue Jackets.
Evgeny Kuznetsov did not skate due to illness. Carbery says that his status for Saturday is also TBD.
Connor McMichael replaced Kuznetsov on the first power play unit, so if No. 92 can’t suit up, McMichael will be on the first power play unit.
