Capitals Release Roster For First Preseason Game Against Buffalo Sabres On Sunday

The Washington Capitals open up their preseason slate tomorrow against the Buffalo Sabres at 2 p.m. at Capital One Arena. The Caps announced who will be suiting up in tomorrow’s affair late Saturday afternoon. The 23-man roster consists of 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders. 

The regular players that will be in the lineup tomorrow are Anthony Mantha, Sonny Milano, Dylan Strome, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Martin Fehervary and Nicolas Aube-Kubel.

Here are the expected lines for Sunday’s contest according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com

Matthew Phillips, the Calgary Wranglers’ leading scorer last year, will suit up for the first time in a Capitals uniform. Other players to watch include Hendrix Lapierre, Alexander Suzdalev, Vincent Iorio, Aliaksai Protas, Alex Alexeyev and Lucas Johansen.

Hunter Shepard, the 2023 Calder Cup MVP, is the projected starting netminder and Clay Stevenson will serve as the backup. It is likely that they split the game. 

Nick Leivermann and free agent invite Jon McDonald will also be making their pro debuts.

    Hershey heavy lineup, I see. 6 Caps vets, with 15 likely to be Bears or Stingrays, and one junior (Karabela). Looks like Carbs wants some familiarity, for his first game.
