Last year, the Washington Capitals were sellers for the first time in a while. Washington made four trades during last year’s deadline. First, the Caps trade long-time defenseman Dmitry Orlov and forward Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Craig Smith, a 2023 first-round pick, a 2024 third-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick.
The Capitals also made two smaller trades to acquire draft capital. On Feb. 28, forward Marcus Johansson was dealt to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick. Then on Mar. 1, two days before the 2023 trade deadline, center Lars Eller was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick.
