VITALS

Trineyev, 21, is a 6’-2”, 190lb winger drafted by the Capitals in the 4th round (#117 overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals announced on May 2, 2022, that they had signed Trineyev to a three-year entry-level deal. His contract will carry an average annual value of $859,167.

CAREER SUMMARY

Trineyev has played internationally with Russia on their Under 16, Under 17 and Under 18 teams, and has been very productive each time, playing on the top line for the Under 18 team.

During the 2019-20 season, Trineyev primarily played with Dynamo’s MHL (juniors) affiliate, MHK Moskva Dynamo. He played in 36 games, scoring 12 goals and recording 14 assists. He also played one game with Dynamo Tver at the VHL level.

Trineyev also participated in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, scoring two goals and recording two assists in four games. He spent much of his time on the ice with fellow prospects Ivan Didkovsky and Dmitri Zlodeyev.

The 2020-21 season saw Trineyev play at all three levels of the KHL system, including three games with the parent club, Dynamo Moscow. Trineyev spent a majority of his season with Dynamo Moskva of the MHL, where he had 15 goals and 15 assists in 33 games played.

The 2021-22 season saw more of the same for Trineyev. He started the season on the injury list with a damaged wrist he sustained in pre-season action. In the end, he finished the season playing 11 games with the parent KHL team, but recorded no points. He played 21 games with the junior team, scoring three goals and recording 15 assists.

On May 2 Trineyev signed his first NHL contract with the Capitals and the following day signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Hershey Bears. Trineyev then made his way from Russia to Hershey in time for a few practices and made his AHL debut in the Bears must-win Game 2 of their first round series with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He would play in two postseason games with the Bears.

Russian media outlet Sport24 reported on May 13 that Trineyev will return to Dynamo Moscow next season on loan from the Capitals.

Trineyev’s 2022-23 season included increased games at the KHL level, recording two goals and 11 assists in 39 regular season games and two assists in five postseason games. Trineyev made the KHL teams opening night roster.

As he did last season, Trineyev reported to AHL Hershey at the conclusion of Dynamo’s postseason run. Trineyev played in two regular season games but recorded no points.

OCTOBER

Trineyev announced in May that he would be returning to Moscow Dynamo for the 2022-23 season. He began training camp with the KHL club right from the start and stayed with the team for the first few games.

Trineyev started slow in the preseason but heated up in the last week, scoring two goals and an assist in back-to-back games. His first goal of the preseason:

Second goal of the preseason

Trineyev continued to heat up towards the end of the KHL preseason. He would add a nice primary assist in Dynamo’s game-winner on August 25.

Trineyev was officially announced as making Dynamo’s opening day roster on September 1. He began the season on the 4th line and would record an assist in the season opener against Ak Bars.

Trineyev was a healthy scratch for the fifth game of the season, but returned to the lineup on September 16. Unfortunately he would be sent down to the junior team (VHL) following the game. After a lengthy absence he returned to the KHL club’s lineup on October 15.

Trineyev played in four games for Moscow Dynamo and recorded no goals and no assists. He returned to the KHL club after playing two games for their VHL affiliate. He did not record any points in either of those VHL games.

It is likely those two games were a conditioning stint as he had not played for nearly two weeks, although we were unable to confirm any type of injury.

His overall statistics for this season in the KHL was 24 games played, no goals, two assists, and a -5. He has taken three minor penalties for the season.

Monthly Score: 2.5

NOVEMBER

For the month of November, Trineyev played in seven games for Moscow Dynamo. He scored no goals but recorded an assist in the game of November 28. His ice time in recent games has been between 9-10 minutes and in one game was 16 minutes. That was an improvement from the beginning of the month when his ice time was between 6-8 minutes.

However, he did not play in Moscow Dynamo’s game on November 30. Oddly enough, despite not playing, he was the face of Moscow Dynamo’s marketing message on Instagram.

On November 1, he returned to the KHL after a short conditioning stint with Moscow Dynamo’s VHL affiliate.

On November 28, he had the only assist on a goal by Vladislav Mikhailov. He started the game on the fourth line.

His overall statistics for this season in the KHL are 17 games played, no goals, three assists, and is -7. He has taken one minor penalty for the season.

Trineyev centered the top line against Dynamo Minsk on 11/24.

JANUARY

Trineyev returned to Moscow Dynamo’s lineup on January 3 and recorded the primary assist on the team’s first goal.

Trineyev scored his first career goal in the KHL on January 8. It was the team’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to Torpedo. Trineyev’s goal came on the power play at 9:10 of the first period. At the time, it put Dynamo ahead, 1-0.

After scoring his first career goal in the KHL on January 8, Trineyev recorded the primary assist on Dynamo’s game-winning goal late in the third period against Salavat Ufa.

Trineyev second his second career KHL goal:

In the game against Admiral, Trineyev began taking face-offs for the first time in the KHL.

Trineyev nearly potted the game-winning goal in regulation on January 29 against Barys, but then provided the primary assist for the game-winner in overtime.

He also had a monster hit in the game.

Trineyev was dropped to the fourth line for some reason on the last game of the month. It didn’t matter, as he provided the primary assist on Dynamo’s first goal.

During the month of January, Trineyev played in 12 games for Moscow Dynamo. He scored two goals and recorded six assists. He has generally played on the second line for most of January. He’s also starting to earn the trust of the coaches, who have now used him in 3-on-3 overtime and is a steady component of Dynamo’s power play. He also started taking regular faceoffs for Dynamo in January.

APRIL

Trineyev returned to Hershey in early April where he played in two regular season game, recording three shots but no points. He remains on the Bears roster but will unlikely see any postseason games.

“I thought Bogdan played well. He’s a good skater, has a good skill set,” said Bears head coach Todd Nelson in his postgame presser. “I thought that Bogdan played a strong game. I like his size, I like his speed and he has a good skillset.”

This year’s visit to America finds Trineyev with a little better grasp of the English language, but no Russian translators on the team. Last season Aliaksei Protas acted as the team’s translator during Trineyev’s brief visit to Hershey.

“It’s been better. Apparently last year he didn’t know any English. But now he understands a bit more,” said Nelson. “He has an app on his phone that translates English to Russian, Russian to English, so they’re passing back the phone. He’s roommates with (Mason) Morelli on the road so you see them always passing the phone back and forth. ‘What do you want for lunch?’, all that stuff,” said Nelson.

“He’s a good person,” added Nelson. “He has a pleasant way about himself. He wants to learn. He fits right in with our hockey team.”

MONTHLY SCORE SUMMARY

PLAYER FORECAST

Trineyev had a productive development season, with increased games at the KHL level. In the 12 games we watched he looked solid, contributing to the team’s offense on a regular basis. He is also learning to use his size at the pro level, which is an improvement from last season.

Trineyev will play one more season with KHL Dynamo and then his sights should turn to AHL Hershey for the 2024-25 season.

I think Bogs is going to surprise some folks. Still young but playing fairly well against the men in KHL. 22 when he finally moved to Hershey.

  3. Anonymous says:

This kid is the sleeper in the Caps prospect pool. Under the radar.

  4. Prevent Defense says:

NHL Playoffs update: Second Round tends to expose pretenders who aren’t contenders. NJD reverted to baby-NHL team not ready for Playoff rigors. DAL has found a way to lose, year after year. They might squeak past SEA and try again

Thanks NovaCapsFans for the B Trineyev evaluation. Has some scoring ability. Latest Baby Caps bunch has lots of offensive skill. Need a Coach who can induce them to play NHL-calibre hockey
