ESPN’s Kevin Weekes is reporting the Capitals are trading Marcus Johansson to the Minnesota Wild for a third-round draft pick in the 2024 draft. The Washington Post has since confirmed the trade.

The Washington Post has confirmed.

The Capitals re-signed Johansson to a one-year, $1.1 million contract on July 13. The Capitals acquired Johansson at the 2022 NHL trade deadline from the Seattle Kraken for Daniel Sprong, their fourth-round pick in 2022 and their sixth-round pick in 2023.

Johansson began his NHL career with the Capitals in 2010 and player for seven years before being traded to the New Jersey Devils on July 2, 2017. Johansson played two seasons with the Devils before being traded to the Boston Bruins at the 2019 trade deadline.

Johansson then signed with the Minnesota Wild for the 2020-21 season, before moving on to the Seattle Kraken for their inaugural season.
