Alex Ovechkin Has Returned From Russia And Is Back At Capitals Practice Facility

The Washington Capitals announced Wednesday morning that team captain Alex Ovechkin has returned from Russia and is currently at the Capitals practice facility. He will most likely participate in the team’s practice scheduled for noon on Wednesday.

Ovechkin missed the Capitals last four games. He was the first player on the ice before Wednesday’s practice.

Ovechkin rushed from the airport straight to facility this morning. He was eager to get back after last week. “It was probably toughest situation I’ve been through through my whole NHL career…it’s life and we move on. Thanks everybody for support back home and here,” he said.

Ovechkin was emotional as he spoke of his father’s impact today: “He give me everything, all his health, all his time. He travel with me all over the world and been at every practice when he have a chance.”

Ovechkin left the team last Tuesday to return to Russia to be with his ailing father. Ovechkin announced the passing of his father, Mikhail, last Wednesday. The announcement was made on Ovechkin’s Instagram account.

Alex inscribed the post: “Today I lost my father. I thank everyone for their support, but please be understanding and do not disturb my family in this difficult time for us.”

The funeral for Mikhail Ovechkin was held on Saturday. He was 71.
