Former Washington Capitals forward and two-time Stanley Cup Champion Andre Burakovsky had his first day with the NHL’s Stanley Cup on August 9, 2018. Four years later, minus 13 days, Burakovsky brought the Cup back to Malmo, Sweden for the second time.

Andre’s first day with the Stanley Cup started with the Cup being delivered to his family home in Malmo. It was the first time that the Stanley Cup had ever made a visit to Malmo. Burakovsky’s second day with the cup began in similar fashion, with photos in the backyard of his family’s home.

Reception At The Blommerod

Burakovsky next held a relatively small event at The Blommerod, a country restaurant and event property on the shore of Ringsjön, about 30 miles north-east of Malmo.

The event included a live DJ, a sushi bar, an upscale food truck from “Oh Deer, Smash Burger”, a caviar station and smoke and light show for the arrival of the guest of honor.  Jerseys from Burakovsky’s career were draped throughout, with the other guest of honor, the Stanley Cup, situated in a dedicated central room for the event.

To be here with all friends and family, and the girlfriend who gets to join for the first time, it’s very fun. You never get tired of that, says André Burakovsky to Sydsvenskan.

The Cup had traveled by night train to Malmö from Stockholm, where Burakovsky’s teammate Gabriel Landeskog had previously held it. Before that, it had been in the Czech Republic.

BACK TO MALMO

Burakovsky and his crew returned to Malmo in the evening for an additional shindig at the Clarion Malmo Live, which included rooftop keg stands.

Side note:  The Colorado Avalanche have yet to mention Burakovsky’s day with the cup. Burakovsky signed with the Seattle Kraken this summer after not receiving an over from the Avalanche.

Gabriel Landeskog had his day with the cup yesterday in Stockholm.

More to come.
