Alex Ovechkin and his wife Nastya Ovechkina welcomed their first child, a baby boy Sergei, Saturday morning in South Florida.

Sergei Aleksandrovich Ovechkin was named after Ovechkin’s late brother, who died when Ovechkin was 10 years old. Alex’s brother Sergei died from a blood clot following a car accident at age 24.

A close friend of Ovechkin, basketball player Vitaly Fridzon, reported the birth of his son from Ovechkin. “Congratulations on the birth of the firstborn and heir! Well done, keep it up! Hooray! Hooray! Hurray! “Wrote Fridzon on his instagram.

Ovechkin released a photo of tiny Sergei this morning via his Instagram account. Ovi Inscribed the post with:

“08/18/2018 …. ❤️ Thank you my girl for the most beautiful day in my life !!! @ nastyashubskaya ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️“

Ovi’s wife and new mom Nastya also posted the same image with the inscription “ 08/18/18 🙏🏻❤️ #to be nice to this world #our little #ovechkinJr“

Sergei was born in South Florida, where Ovechkin has been seen training at the Florida Panthers’ workout facility, meaning the child will have Russian and American citizenship. After the Cup’s visit to Moscow, Nastya and Alex returned to their place in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, staying put and preparing for the birth.

The couple were married two years ago but didn’t hold an official ceremony until July of last year.

It should also be noted the baby was born 08. 18, 2018, which is fitting since Ovechkin wears the No. 8 on his jersey. In Europe that would be 18/8/18.

“Congratulations” to the Oveckins have been pouring in all day:

Everyone at NoVa Caps would like to congratulate Alex and Nastya, and welcome Sergei to the Capitals family!
