The Penguins’ star center was injured on a play early in the first period while driving to the net. Crosby and the Capitals Matt Niskanen would ultimately collide as Crosby was falling to the ice. Niskanen would receive a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the play.
Trotz was asked about the Crosby injury following the game. The first question regarding the play was relatively professional with Trotz responding in his typical, straightforward fashion. However, the next question, by Pittsburgh reporter Rob Rossi, who had already referred to the hit as an “assault” on Twitter, basically began to interrogate Trotz, like a scorned fan, jacked up on one too many beers:
Rossi’s pathetic behavior was reminiscent of a jilted lover, taking jabs at the guy who stole his girlfriend. To Trotz’ credit, he wasn’t going to have it, and fired back at Rossi, putting the hack in his place.
It’s a shame that the Penguins organization allows characters like this into a professional environment such as a post-game media session. But then again, it IS Pittsburgh.
