Each week over the course of 10 weeks, NoVa Caps’ contributor Michael Marzzacco will take a look back at what he believes were the Top 10 Moments of the 2015-2016 Washington Capitals’ season.
#9: A Blowout at The Garden | Washington Capitals vs New York Rangers
MSG had always been a house of horrors for the Capitals. This game was the Caps second time at The Garden since falling to the Rangers in overtime of the previous year’s Stanley Cup Eastern Conference semifinals in seven games, another painful round two playoff exit. You can skip right on over the video below, if you wish.
The Caps fell 5-2 to the Rangers in New York back in early November, so they were looking to bring home a few points and they not only got a few points, the Caps scored six unanswered goals to silence the hostile NYR crowd.
It wasn’t easy in the beginning despite a Justin Williams goal putting the visitors up early 1-0. The Rangers answered with three consecutive goals by J.T. Miller, Chris Kreider and Dan Boyle to go up 3-1 heading into the first intermission.
The Caps tallied two more goals early in the third period. Jason Chimera scored on the PK and Marcus Johansson scored just over two minutes later to round out the scoring as Washington got a 7-3 win.
Rangers haven't lost consecutive games since Dec. 20 — the bottom-out 7-3 loss to the Capitals.
